This essay brings back colorful half buried memories from my fragmented teen years. And may I just sit in rapt adoration at your deft, compelling literary style?

Ha. How did you find me in the Substack sea? Your shadow appears in these long buried memories now and again. Most names have been withheld to protect the guilty.

Luckily for me, the debut album made its way to West Virginia in 1979. We were transfixed by "Hero Worship" and of course "Dance This Mess Around." It's amazing that Athens, GA, also produced R.E.M. Although the B-52's' oeuvre was not very angst-ridden, for the most part, dancing to those infectious tunes was a great way to purge yourself of your free-floating anxiety in the late 70 and throughout the 80s.
